Yasutaka Nakata recently made an official Passion Pit remix. The song isn’t that interesting musically, but it’s absolutely breathtakingly revolutionary in theory. I remember when all the Perfume stuff came out and I thought that in theory Nakata’s sound were so interesting that he could be the first Jpop producer to get major work outside of Japan. But I never in my wildest dreams thought it would actually happen. I mean, Tsunku has been pooping out smash hits for nearly 20 years and probably hasn’t even come close to having a single meeting with a Western music agent.
With the recent Owl City success in memory I’m starting to sense a trend. It feels like the world is finally “getting” stuff I loved 2 - 3 years ago. It’s of course fantastic and it must mean that the music I’ve been obsessing over recently will be all over the mainstream by fall 2011. So look out for a massive Dungeon Elite hype, Jakazid producing Katy Perry, T Mills or Mikey Whiskeyhands signing to Cash Money Records, Jonny Craig dating some teen idol It girl (I know I’ve mentioned that before, but trust me, IT WILL happen) and a shitload of RnB ballads with Marillion and Asia samples.
